HOW FIT ARE YOU? Three Simple Tests to Find Out

How you define fitness depends on the type of performance you expect.  You can get different answers from different people when it comes to defining fitness.  Man is at his best when he achieves balanced fitness spiritually and physically. Everyone should be good at everything a healthy, active man needs to be able to do with disregard to extreme activity of which most are drug-induced.  It is widely agreed that man needs core firmness.  Our own fitness we refer to is that of spiritual capability. You need enough spiritual strength and endurance to run the Christian race without losing out mainly to enjoy heaven through its narrow gate, hence paradise glory.  You need torso strength to lift your own spiritual body weight in repeated challenges/temptations.  All Christians’ activities is aimed at entry to heaven.

FASTING -- QUOTABLE QUOTES

Fasting is a medicine.
Saint John Chrysostom

In his adversity I ever prayed, that God would give him strength; for greatness he could not want.
Ben Jonson (1572 - 1637)

It's easy to love God. It's easy to love Jesus. It's easy to pray for the heathen African ten thousand miles from the house where you live. It's hard to call a lousy tramp your brother and set him down at your table.
Melvin Tolson (1900 - 1966)

A leap over the hedge is better than good men's prayers.
Miguel de Cervantes (1547 - 1616)

Almighty God, give us the grace that we may cast away the works of darkness, and put upon us the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life.
Book of Common Prayer

Command your children to perform ritual prayer when they are seven, and beat them for neglecting it when they are ten.
Ahmad Ibn Hanbal (780 - 855)

Grant that those things which we ask faithfully we may obtain effectually.
Book of Common Prayer

FASTING

To gain any good thing requires sacrifice; the better the sacrifice, the better the value.  Whatever is given up in exchange for another is attached to a sacrificial value.  No task or important thing will succeed without sacrifice which might include money, time, energy or any other valuable.  You need to give-up something to get-up on the move.

Fasting is the abstinence from food and regularly from drink for a longer than usual time. Fasting has been practiced for a very long time with link to religion. Fasts are observed among believers and adherents of religions. Early Christians are associated fasting with penitence and purification. The Christian church established fasting as voluntary but serious believers in God observe fasts rigorously.  Many Old Testament prophets and early Christian writers condemned the abuse of fasting as an empty formality by persons who led immoral lives. In modern times criticism of fasting has been based principally on other grounds.  The hunger strike, a form of fasting, has been employed as a political weapon. Innumerable political prisoners in various parts of the world have engaged in hunger strikes.  The Israelites observed fasting on different occasions, among which is in the conflict between the other tribes with the tribe of Benjamin, on account of the wrong suffered by a Levite's concubine and when they went to Mizpeh for the Ark of the Covenant.

MONEY – A HINT

Any medium of exchange that is widely accepted in payment for goods and services and in payment of debts is referred to as money. It also serves as a regulation of value for measuring the relative worth of goods and services. Price of a commodity is the number of units of money required to buy that commodity.  Certainly, everyone needs money.  Well, if you don’t, I do.  I like money but I don’t love or worship it.  Some animals, especially domestic ones need money.  The government that even control the flow of money needs more of it to keep the system going.  The more money you have, the more the need to increase it rises.  In some quarters, it is more money, more problems, and to others, it’s more money, more progress.  Money indeed is good.  Yes, it is very good.  But money becomes dangerous when it is allowed to control one’s mind.  It becomes evil when it becomes someone’s good – when it is allowed to take the place of GOD in a man’s life.  Money is deadly if it becomes a person’s object of worship.
